Poem 5

Calypso's Patience

What warmth did I earn

What home deserve

What smile would I capture

Until your Heart chose to serve

How much blood did I spill

Which nations wouldn't quake

What cruelty was beyond me

Until your Love claimed Her place

What untamed power

Forged of Earth's needs

What curse to conquer

Watered humanity's seeds

Those vile beautiful murderers

I fought to King and lead

What fated Greatness

Did I shape to succeed

Until your Love took my lust

And shaped into care

My care grew to Love

Your Love took mine there

My scarred ambition

Pawned people for gain

Your Love asked for nothing

All fear is now slain.
